"Strictly Thoroughbreds"

Racing to the Ring has been developed to give the Thoroughbred high accolades for their abilities as show ring hunters. Thoroughbreds are athletic machines that thrive on competition. Racing to the Ring will give retired racehorses and their owners and riders another chance to become Champions.

Racing to the Ring has created the Racing to the Ring Hunter Classic. This classic will be offered at horse shows throughout the country to enable horses to accumulate points to vie for the title of Top Thoroughbred Hunter in their region. End of the year coolers and Trophies will be awarded to the top thoroughbred in each region, with the top ten Thoroughbreds also receiving recognition. Schooling shows as well as USEF rated shows are encouraged to add this classic into their schedule to join our efforts to bring acknowledgment to the thoroughbred horse, their owners and riders. If your favorite horse show is not yet offering this terrific classic please bring it to their attention.

What is a Thoroughbred?:
A bred of horse that originated in 17th century England from the crosses between two Arabian stallions and one Turkish stallion with English mares. The three stallions were named Darley Arabian, Godolphin Arabian, and Byerly Turk. The names were a combination of the names of the people who brought them and the country from where they came. Thomas Darley and Lord Godolphin had two stallions from Arabia and Captain Robert Byerly had brought one stallion from Turkey. These horses were bred to the stronger local breed. The result was a super strong breed of horse that could carry heavier loads and run longer distances without getting tired. The thoroughbred is thought to be the world's premier race horse, but they are also used for a wide range of other equestrian sports including Hunters, eventing, dressage and pleasure riding. The word refers specifically to a horse registered with the Jockey Club and should not be used to denote "purebred."
